Welcome to the web site of the Worcestershire Short Mat Bowls Association.
The home venue of the County Short Mat Bowling Association is now located within :
Bromsgrove Indoor Bowls Centre
The County short mat association is most appreciative of the Bromsgrove Centre embracing our association in this ideal setting. The facilities are excellent and the location is perfect for road communications via the M5 motorway and the motorway system and the main A38 road. Its location was no doubt a factor in encouraging the ESMBA to previously hold the National Finals at Bromsgrove.
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE – 18TH JUNE 2020. – POSITION AS AT 1st JULY UNCHANGED EXCEPT FOR NOTIFICATION THAT THE ANNUAL
GENERAL MEETING OF THE ESMBA HAS BEEN POSTPONED – NEW DATE NOT YET KNOWN.
1. KIDDERMINSTER AND DISTRICR INDOOR BOWLING LEAGUE.
The county has been informed that Stourport Civic Hall will not open in September with a reopening possibly late October or November. This will inevitably curtail the league’s 2020/2021 season. As things stand as at 18th June, it is possible that the league will start the season in the ” 2nd quarter” with teams playing each other three times instead of the usual four. This arrangement may change depending upon the impact of covid19 and any government regulations.
2. ESMBA DIARY DATES AND FIXTURES – JULY TO SEPTEMBER.
The ESMBA having cancelled fixtures etc. following the outbreak of the covid19 pandemic, have included the following rescheduling of some of their fixtures in their draft diary for the 2020/2021 season. These may have an impact on or be of interest to county bowlers :
18th July – ESMBA – Annual General Meeting. – 19th July – Summer Club Championship. – National Finals – Singles ( 3rd Sept.), Pairs ( 4th Sept. ) , Fours ( 5th Sept. ) Triples ( 6th Sept. ).
Once again the above schedule may be changed because of the impact of covid19 and/or government regulations.
3. COUNTY DIARY.
The county diary has now been updated for the coming 2020/2021 season. Some of our bowlers will be involved in the national finals but the county’s first fixture is currently scheduled for the27th September, with the County Fours taking place on that date.
All bowlers will appreciate that this diary is dependent upon a continued relaxation of the covid19 lockdown regulations and hopefully no second spike of infections.
POSITION AS AT 24TH JULY 2020.
The ESMBA, in the light of recent government announcements, is now urgently considering the arrangements and safeguarding measures which will be necessary for the restart of short mat bowling by clubs and counties. Hopefully further information will be available in the near future.
POSITION AS AT 6TH AUGUST 2020.
The ESMBA, through it’s management committee, has considered and agreed a “Route Map” for the restart of short mat bowling. This Route Map will be reproduced on the “News and Match Reports” page of the county’s web site. The ESMBA has emphasised that this route map will be subject to government guidance, with the proposals now waiting for government comments. The implications are that there will be no county matches / competitions for the remainder of 2020. The diary originally shown on our web site will therefore be deleted. Arrangements for 2021 will be published at the appropriate stage later this year.
The National Finals, originally programmed for April this year, subsequently changed to September, will now be programmed for April 2021.
As far as the local scene is concerned, arrangements to restart bowling at club level, including the Kidderminster and District league, will be formulated as soon as possible taking into account the covid19 situation and government advice.
POSITION AS AT 1ST SEPTEMBER 2020
Because of the continuing covid19 pandemic, and the precautionary regulations and advice concerning social distancing and particularly meetings of groups of people, there will be no restart of short mat bowling in the immediate future. This will affect all county short mat bowlers registered with the ESMBA.
The ESMBA has spent a large amount of time considering the situation and has published documentation on how short mat bowling could be restarted. Details can be found by visiting www.esmba.co.uk.
The local situation will be reviewed in November.
