KIDDERMINSTER AND DISTRICT INDOOR BOWLING LEAGUE
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE – 18TH JUNE. – POSITION UNCHANGED 1ST JULY
The county has been informed that Stourport Civic Hall will not open in September, with a reopening possibly late October or November. This will inevitably curtail the league season for 2020-2021. As things stand, as at the 18th June, it is possible that the league will start the season in ” the second quarter ” of the usual four quarter season, with teams playing each other three times. This arrangement may change depending upon the impact of covid19 and government regulations.
POSITON AS AT 24TH JULY 2020 – Discussions are currently being held with Stourport Civic Hall on the arrangements and safeguarding procedures which will be necessary for the restart of short mat bowling at the Civic Hall. Hopefully further information will be available in the near future.
POSITION AS AT 6TH AUGUST 2020 – The English Short Mat Bowling Association has now issued a ” Road Map”. showing how they see the restart of bowling activities at local, county, and national level. Details of this are outlined in the “News and Match Reports” page of this web site. Based on this, further consideration is being given on our own local arrangements which will be necessary to enable a restart of bowling at Stourport. A further announcement will be made as soon as possible.
Last season’s information will be retained below until the start of next season.
The Kidderminster and District Indoor Bowling League ( formerly Gilt Edge League ) started the 2016/2017 competition season on the 3rd October 2016 in its new home venue at “The Civic Hall, Martin’s Way, Stourport on Severn, DY13 8UJ”. The new venue which offers excellent facilities replaces the former venue at Gilt Edge Leisure Centre. The 2019/2020 season starts on the 23rd September with a prior practise session on the 16th. Each team will play a total of 28 matches with the last being played on the 24th March.
The league was first formed in the late 1980s and has been operating very successfully since that time, and in addition to the league competition other individual competitions are promoted. The league mainly covers the north of the county meaning that there is ample scope for bowlers from the southern part of the county to become involved. For the 2019/2020 season eight teams will be competing against each other. The league will operate on Monday evenings and on four Tuesdays during the season from 7.30pm to 10.00pm – each team within the league comprises two triples, with each triple playing nine ends.
Tony Crowley organises the league and produces information and league tables shown on this page. Many thanks are due to him for his strenuous efforts in this very important sector of county activities.
Anyone interested in becoming involved with short mat bowling is invited to come along to the civic hall at Stourport on one of the league evenings to see what is happening, or alternatively contact – email@example.com
