18th October 2015 – County (H) vs Shropshire “A”

This was the County’s first fixture in Group 8 of the ESMBA inter county competition for 2015/2016, and was played at our home venue – Bromsgrove IBC. The County was pleased to start the new season with a win scoring 22 points to Shropshire’s 18

In the morning session both singles players lost by a more or less similar shot difference to a strong Shropshire performance. Tim Mills / Keith Mills and Trish Clifford / Richard Rose won their Pairs matches with a shot difference of 3 and 5 respectively – consistent performances from both teams. Malcolm Saunders’ Triples team had a strong start and although Shropshire fought back they could not overhaul the county who won by 13 shots to 11. Mark Bourne’s Triples team lost by 8 shots to 13. In the Fours Terry Clliford’s team and Steve Tyler’s  teams both won by 14 shots to 8 and 13 shots to 9 respectively. Steve Tyler’s team had lost the first 5 ends and were 8-0 down , but fought back stongly to win the next 6 ends coming out winners 13-8.

The afternoon session started with defeats for the two singles players, although Jim Tingle only lost by 1 shot. In the pairs, Tim Mills / Keith Mills won by 1 shot ( 14-13 ) with Trish Cliiford and Richard Rose losing by 1 shot ( 13-14 ). Malcolm Saunders’ Triples team won a hard fought match with the result really being decided in the last end when the county prevailed by 9 shots to 8. Mark Bourne’s triples team lost by 9 shots to 13. In the Fours there were comfortable wins for Terry Clifford’s team( 14-8 – same score as their morning session ), and for Steve Tyler’s team ( 14-4 ).

ESMBA – Inter County Knockout – 21st February 2015

The County was drawn against Surrey in the quarter final of the 2015 inter county knockout competition held at Melksham, Wiltshire on the 21st February. The county lost, scoring 10 points against 30 for Surrey. The county’s shot total was 132 against 212 for Surrey. This means that the county is out of the 2015 consolation cup.

The first session  –  We were optimistic about a good result, but were soon struggling. Ian Davis had a slow start, was 4-10 down but fought  back to 14-14 and only lost on the last end. Richard Payne in his singles match had an off day. Both the pairs of Dave Grove and Keith Mills , and Trish Clifford and Richard Rose were struggling at the start, but came back well to achieve a draw and a loss by only one shot. The triples were a contrast. Terry Clifford’s team started well, stalled as the competition improved and unfortunately could not get back. Dave Powell’s team had a slow start but went on to win. The two fours teams unfortunately lost by uncomfortable margins.

Afternoon session.  –  Both the singles lost their matches but the two pairs teams won comfortably.. The triples again were a contrast. Terry Clifford’s team were overwhelmed and lost by 5 shots to 13. Dave Powell’s team powered to a five shot lead but were caught on the last end for a draw. Both the fours teams lost

County ( H ) versus Herefordshire 30th November

The county narrowly lost to Herefordshire by 19 points to 21 . The county, however, scored more shots  ( 188 )  against the visitors 180.

During the first session Ian Davis was playing in excellent form with a big win of 17 shots to 9. The other singles match and the two pairs matches lost. Both the pairs teams of Tim and Keith Mills and Trish Clifford and Richard Rose were leading up to  the ninth end but then faded. The two triples teams won their matches and Jim Tingle’s Fours team had an easy win. Unfortunately Richard Hulbert’s fours team eventually lost by 8 shots to 11.

The County started the afternoon session with confidence. Ian Davis continued with his excellent form and won his singles match convincingly by 20 shots to 7. Richard Payne unfortunately lost his singles match by 10 shots to 19. Tim and Keith Mills narrowly lost their pairs match by 10 shots to 12, but the other triples team of Trish Clifford and Richard Rose  won their match by a similar  margin. Dave Powell’s Triples team powered to a win with Terry Clifford,s Triples team being caught on the last end for a 10-10 draw. Both the fours teams lost their matches.

County ( H ) versus Wiltshire 8th November

The County  drew with Wiltshire each County scoring 20 points.  Worcestershire scored 191 shots to Wiltshire’s 167.

In the morning session the Singles and Pairs matches were good for the County. Ian Davis was back playing in imperious form with a big 22 shots to 8 win,

The Pairs team of Tim and Keith Mills  had an equally  convincing win by 23 Shots to 5. Trish Clifford and Richard Rose battled back from a slow start to also

win, this time by 16 shots to 12. Richard Payne in his Singles match only lost by one shot with a score of 11 shots to 12.. The Triples and Fours teams went on

with high hopes, although they all found the  Wiltshire’s Triples and Fours a tougher nut to crack, with only  Richard Hulbert’s Fours team winning a hard fought

match by 7 shots to 6.

At the half way stage it was all even.

The County started the afternoon session with confidence. Both Singles teams won convincingly, Ian Davis by 22 shots to 8 and Richard Payne by 14 shots to 11 –

Both pairs teams lost. The Triples and Fours teams fared better than in the morning, with Richard Dank’s Triples team winning all the way to finally win by 13

shots to 7.  Terry Clifford’s Triples team after a disastrous start only went off by two shots losing in the end by 11 shots to 13. Jim Tingle’s Fours team was in front

for all of their match to eventually win by 9 shots to 6.

This was the County’s best result so far this season.

County ( A ) versus Herefordshire – 26th October 2014

The county lost its away fixture against Herefordshire scoring 6 points ( 148 shots ) to Herefordshire’s 30 points ( 219 shots).

Worcestershire suffered another defeat,this time away  to Herefordshire. Once again there were several hard fought matches in all groups  –  Singles/Pairs/Triples and fours. Herefordshire managed, however, to have the edge over the County.

There were some successes for Worcestershire – During the morning session Keith Mills’  Fours team won by 8 shots to 6 and in the afternoon session Ian Davis and Trish Clifford had a very convincing win in their Pairs match by 22 shots to 7. Richard Payne returned to winning ways with a 17 shots to 15 win in his singles match.
